Solaris: NIS — Error talking to : rpcbind failure (host is down?)

One of our NIS master servers, <host>, was recently taken offline and I noticed this when pushing updates of a recent change:

bash-2.05# cd /var/yp/
bash-2.05# /usr/ccs/bin/make
updated passwd
Error talking to : rpcbind failure (host is down?)
Error talking to : rpcbind failure (host is down?)
pushed passwd
updated netid
Error talking to n: rpcbind failure (host is down?)
pushed netid

The following discussion was a good lead from a google search, serving as a  good solid starting point in resolving the issue.

After retrieving the list of ypservers with the command:

# ypcat -k ypservers

I needed to change directories to:

/var/yp/binding/ypservers

and not:

/var/yp/ypservers

I was then able to proceed as the discussion suggested to fixing this problem.

# ypcat -k ypservers >/tmp/ypservers

edit /tmp/ypservers and remove the host(s)

# cat /tmp/ypservers | makedbm – /var/yp/binding/ypservers
